Christmas Island Detention Centre
NW Point, Christmas Island, WA
Design & Construction
Christmas will come early to those at the Christmas Island’s North West Point Detention Centre, with the construction of the first ever synthetic soccer pitch to be installed on the Island.
Tuff Turf were awarded the contract to partner with the Islands largest civil contracting firm Acker Trading for the design and construction of the all-weather soccer pitch as a result of the government’s decision to provide facilities for sporting activities for the residents.
The reduced size pitch will cater for all year round play, with the complex base design to include a porous aggregate base layer to cater for the monsoonal rains.
The pitch is to be surfaced with Tuff Turf’s TuffPLAY 40 which is a highly durable all weather soccer surface manufactured with the blend of both fibrillated and monofilament synthetic fibres. The surface is to be in-filled with (green) TPE performance infill which exhibits a 22°c cooler surface temperature opposed to the standard SBR.
