Helping build elite quality sports fields isn’t a first for Tuff Group. However, for the Frankston City Council, the Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve was the first official AFL and FIFA certified field they’ve ever had. That’s why we consider ourselves lucky to be part of such a historic project.
Frankston City Council Project Manager, Ashish Bhavsar and Capital Works Delivery Coordinator Rob Savoia, were extremely passionate and dedicated to the project. They invested their time and effort to work hand in hand with our team, ensuring that the project becomes not just the city’s first FIFA and AFL certified sports field, but also one of its best.
From design to construction, our team led by Vincent Bonasera worked hard to deliver the level of quality that Tuff Group is known for. Despite facing many challenges brought on by Melbourne’s severe weather which caused some delays, they were able to overcome and fully complete the project last December 2019 — and the end product was a sight to behold. The field had a 50mm monofilament/fibrillated combined synthetic turf product with sand & TPE infill on a 14mm preformed shock pad. This meant it was ready for the long term.
After seeing the results of our efforts, the Frankston City Council was ecstatic about their new sports field. Even Phil Cantillon, the CEO of Frankston, went to social media to express his thoughts on the project, saying “it looks fabulous doesn’t it.” And we couldn’t agree more. In fact, we will make sure to keep it looking that way as maintenance of the new field will be handled by none other than our long term maintenance expert, Garth Andrews of the Tuff Group Maintenance Team.
So the next time you see yourself in Frankston, drop by the Carrum Downs Recreation Reserve and see the city’s first-ever AFL and FIFA certified sports field.
