AFL, NRL, & IRB Surfaces
Providing a stable footing for football champions great and small
Surfaces For Australia's Football Codes
In Australia, as with other countries around the world, it’s becoming increasingly common for football to be played on artificial surfaces.
Within Australia, Tuff Group is the leader in surfaces for Australian Rules Football (AFL), Rugby League (NRL) and Rugby Union (IRB) surfaces. Tuff Group has been responsible for many of these surfaces across Australia. We’re also the exclusive supplier of CCGrass in Australia, who are one of only a few companies globally to be accredited by these organisations to supply their turf.
While each of these football codes has traditionally been played on natural grass surfaces, the number of artificial surfaces continues to grow. The secret to ensuring a great experience for athletes and participants is the way in which the artificial turf surface is constructed, installed and maintained.
Tuff Group has an end-to-end solution, meaning that we have internal resources for every stage of the concept, design, construction and installation process. Because of our expertise and experience, we’re able to provide advice to potential clients wondering how to get the highest quality surfaces for AFL, NRL and IRB.
The engineering and design team at Tuff Group ensures that both the surface and the underlying base are of the highest standard, which ensures a long life and quality playing experience for athletes of all levels.
The most challenging stage of installing a quality football surface for any code is in constructing the base on with the turf will be placed. No matter what the quality of the surface itself, it will fail if the base is not perfectly engineered and prepared. Tuff Group has now installed many of these surfaces around Australia and has a full internal construction team to provide the best base to lay the turf on.
We also understand how to ensure that the surfaces can be used for multiple codes. This means the correct planning must be undertaken at the start of the project and the manufacture of the turf takes into account the different line markings at the manufacturing stage. This has been particularly beneficial for council-operated surfaces where multiple community members are accessing the surfaces.
