The equal-highest played organised sport in Australia, alongside Soccer.
Surfaces For Every Australian Basketball League
Basketball has increased significantly in popularity, so much so that it is now the equal-highest played organised sport in Australia (along with soccer).
While a lot of organised basketball is played indoor on wooden courts, the proliferation of outdoor and backyard basketball courts is unprecedented and continues to grow. In Southern Australian states in particular, many families are choosing basketball courts over swimming pools as they can be used year-round, are cheaper to maintain and allow for other uses for families.
This newspaper article appeared recently in Melbourne’s The Age newspaper, outlining why so many families are choosing to install basketball courts in their backyards.
Basketball courts can be installed using artificial turf or acrylic surfaces, depending on a range of factors, including the desired type of usage and other requirements. It’s important that clients consider the various aspects of the installation and use of the basketball court, as it will have long-term implications for the use and value of their property.
Tuff Group has a full end-to-end capability, which is important when considering the installation of a basketball court in any environment. We have internal resources for every stage of the concept, design, construction and installation process. We also have experience with a wide variety of basketball installations and can therefore provide first-hand advice to clients on the most relevant requirements for their own situation.
Our engineering and design teams ensure that both the surface and the underlying base are appropriate, which ensures a long life and quality playing experience. The most important stage of installing a basketball court is in constructing the base on with the turf or acrylic court will be placed. No matter what the quality of the surface itself, it will fail if the base is not perfectly engineered and prepared.
Tuff Group install quality backboards on every job we do. These must be correctly installed so that they will not fail under even the toughest use.
We are well-placed to provide advice on the design and installation of your basketball court and have a number of basketball players on our staff. The current President of Basketball Australia, Ned Coten, is also the Chairman of our Advisory Board, meaning that we can ensure we are always at the leading edge of the sport.
