Hockey fields for world-level events across Australia
FIH Approved Hockey Surfaces
Australia is one of the world’s leading hockey nations and was among the first countries to install artificial surfaces for the sport.
In hockey, the era of artificial surfaces has substantially changed the game. In the past, it was difficult to control and maintain the latest and most level surfaces required for the best hockey to be played. With artificial grass surfaces, this changed – allowing perfect playing conditions for the first time in the sport.
Tuff Group has extensive experience installing hockey fields that have been used for world-level events across Australia. The exacting standards required mean that tolerances as small as 3mm across hundreds of metres of surface are required and expected. To be able to deliver this is no mean feat – but Tuff Group has proven time and again that we are the leader in this aspect of the industry.
In order to achieve the perfect surface, a number of requirements must be met. The field must be both flat and level, but also allow for perfect drainage to ensure it does not become waterlogged. Once built, a regular and high-quality maintenance program is critical. Tuff Group is also a proven expert in this area. We recently installed world-leading software to ensure that all aspects of our SignatureCare maintenance program are delivered consistently and that the process and reports are available to clients in a number of formats. No other maintenance program in Australia comes close to delivering the outcomes and reporting structure delivered by Tuff Group.
More than just about any other surface, the construction of the base on which the artificial grass surface will be laid is paramount. Tuff Group provide a full end-to-end service, starting with project consulting and backed up with design, engineering, construction and installation services, all delivered by our own staff.
This means that we have control over all the elements of a hockey field installation. The failure of the base is where we see the most issues with artificial turf surfaces. Where a base is installed by less-experienced contractors, a number of issues (many of which may not have been apparent during construction) will become apparent over the short life of the field. All Tuff Group base construction is guaranteed and we take the time and have the expertise to ensure that it will be around for the long-term.
In particular, correct drainage and surface level are critical. The way in which the ball runs across the surface itself is critical in hockey and this is a key element of the game for athletes, particularly those at the highest levels. Tuff Group will not hand over a project until this is delivered to our own high standards.
Tuff Group have installed hockey surfaces across Australia in a wide range of environments. National Commercial Manager Travis Knight has personally delivered many of these projects over the last 20plus years. Call Travis for a discussion about how your hockey surface can be delivered on-time, on budget and to world-class standards.
