The Australian Country Music Capital will soon be known for its world-class hockey complex!
Tamworth Regional Council announced earlier this month that Tuff Group had been awarded the Design and Construct Contract for the redevelopment of the Tamworth Hockey Centre as part of a competitive tender process to deliver three FIH Global Hockey Fields for the New South Wales (NSW) regional city.
The project will include the design, engineering, construction and installation of two new surfaces for the existing field including ancillary works and the design, engineering, construction and installation of a further field to cater for the expansion of the regional hockey centre. The Federation International Hockey (FIH) fields, including lighting and surrounding landscaping will be delivered by our team already on the ground in NSW. Tuff Group will commence planning work immediately, with the project due to be delivered in March 2020. The project will be led by Tuff Group’s NSW Project Manager Steve Williams, one of Australia’s most experienced synthetic surface professionals.
The project will result in Tamworth becoming one of only six locations in Australia with three water-based synthetics fields, giving it the capability to host state and national hockey championships.
After commencing operations in 2009, Tuff Group have now completed over 1,500 commercial projects across Australia, including some of the country’s most iconic sports fields. This includes St Kevin’s College in Melbourne (3 x soccer pitches, 12 x tennis courts and athletics track & facilities), Murdoch University in Western Australia (2 x FIFA pitches), West Adelaide (1 x FIFA Pitch), ACT Government (2 x FIFA Pitches) and Moreton Bay Queensland (1 x FIFA Pitch) amongst numerous other fields.
Commercial Operations Manager Travis Knight said that the company was well positioned to undertake the work in Tamworth.
“We have now delivered a number of high-profile projects in NSW, including the FIH Global Certified Pitch in Dubbo and the FIH National Certified Pitch in Bathurst”, said Knight. “Our presence in Sydney has grown significantly in a short space of time with the recent completion of the Lionel Watts Sports Fields, which included two FIFA Quality Pitches and one AFL/CA Field for the Northern Beaches Council, along with one FIFA Quality Pitch for the Hills Shire at Bella Vista Public School. Our diverse experience has also seen the completion of the Woodriffe Garden Tennis Complex for Penrith Council which included 10 cushioned acrylic courts.”
“We have invested in developing a comprehensive and skilled workforce, including architects, engineers and of course experienced construction and installation teams”, he said. “Because we have an end-to-end solution, we’re able to ensure that every aspect of the project is delivered to the exacting standard. We also have a growing Maintenance team, to ensure the longest possible life and best upkeep after we hand over a new asset.”
The final playing surface will be supplied by the world’s largest manufacturer of artificial turf, CCGrass (CCG). The company is one of only a few in the world who hold Preferred Producers status with FIH (Hockey), FIFA (Football), IRB (Rugby) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF, tennis) standards. Tuff Group is the exclusive supplier of CCG products in Australia and New Zealand for commercial, light commercial, residential and retail sales.
CCG Regional Sales Director Andy Zhang said that the Tamworth project would be one of a number of high-quality projects the company supplies around the globe in 2020.
“We’re proud to partner with Tuff Group and supply the surface for this important project”, said Zhang.
“Our designers will work with the engineering team at Tuff Group to produce grass that is best suited for the use and location of the fields. We will deliver the product direct to site and back it up with a 7-year product warranty, ensuring the local community is assured of a long lasting, high quality hockey facility. Hopefully Tamworth can produce some world class players on the world class surface that we help to deliver with Tuff Group”.
The expansion and upgrade of the Tamworth Hockey Complex is part of the $9.6 million stage two of the Northern Inland Centre of Sporting Excellence. It has been funded through a partnership between the NSW Government through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Fund, Tamworth Regional Council and Tamworth Hockey Association.
