Research & Development
The relatively young nature of the artificial surfaces industry means that research & development is often an afterthought – not at Tuff Group!
A desire to improve our own offering and lift the standard of the industry has driven us to investigate systems, processes and products and to change the way we think about our craft. Our Melbourne head office is constantly testing new combinations of materials and developing bespoke tools to assist our workforce.
In 2018, we installed our pneumatically-operated cricket wicket for the first time in Sydney. This product is set to revolutionise the way in which cricket wickets are installed across Australia and beyond. The wicket is raised and lowered using a system of pneumatic risers, allowing the surface to be used for cricket in summer and then efficiently and cost-effectively ‘removed’ for football and other sports to be played in the winter months. This development has the capacity to drastically reduce risk for councils and make sport across Australia more enjoyable for all.
Because Tuff Group has our own in-house teams for every aspect of the work we do, we’re also able to research and develop new methods across the entire design, engineering, construction and installation stages of a project. Changes in one part of a project can have significant impacts on all the others.
We are currently in the process of changing the way we deliver and report on our maintenance programs. This will deliver far greater visibility and transparency to our many clients and allow them to oversee and review asset maintenance in real time.
Tuff Group team members are encouraged to look at how things can be done better, more efficiently and more effectively, meaning they are empowered to grow both the business and the industry.
